Why I joined the Rotary:

When I retired 4.5 years ago I was looking for something fulfilling to do and to give back to the community.
When I was working, I traveled a great deal and was out of town.  I was also involved after work quite a bit supporting my boys' sports teams from little league all the way to college.  I always felt bad that I really could not make time to do volunteer work.

I was familiar with the Rotary through their old Pasta Dinner fundraiser.  My wife was the choral director at Rush Henrietta High School and always had her choir perform at the dinners.  I got to know a few of the Rotarians at the dinners, and I explored what they were all about once I retired.

After attending a number of meetings and understood their mission, I was hooked.  I have participated in many of their fundraising activities and have solicited sponsor businesses to financially support our various projects for the Rush Henrietta community.  I am the chairperson for Calkins Road Cleanup service project which we perform 4 times a year.

I find Rotary richly rewarding and a lot of fun.  I have met many great people who really follow the motto "Service Above Self".
