Ray provided an update and a brief history on the Principal's Book of the Month and the Dictionary Project that Rotarians participated in during December. These projects have helped make a difference in the lives of students in our community over the years and continue to show the impact that the Rush-Henrietta Rotary makes.
The Principal’s Book of the Month

The Rush-Henrietta Rotary participated in the Principal’s Book of the Month program at the
Audubon School #33 in the Rochester School district. This program has been supported by
Rotary for many years. Each year the librarian and teachers choose books with a theme for
each month of the school year. The entire school participates in activities around that theme.
To celebrate the program, we were invited to a presentation that occurred in the library on
December 19, 2022. Bill Sargent, Lee Loomis and Ray Warrick and Maureen Neumaier
represented our club. Spouses and friends joined us for a delightful reading and song skit by
the select chorus of the school. A special plus was the presence of Joan Arthur, the former
assistant principal, who is responsible for getting Rotary involved in this program.

The Dictionary Project

Over the past two decades, the Rush-Henrietta Rotary has given out more than 8,000
dictionaries to third graders in Rush-Henrietta, the Industry Residential Center and the
Audubon School #33. Over the past years, school children have become more dependent on
their computers for the chores that a dictionary previously accomplished. We no longer
provide a dictionary to each student but now we are polling the educators to ensure that the
dictionaries will be used. At the Audubon School, we will be providing the dictionaries to one
classroom of third graders. We will also be presenting 72 English dictionaries and 24 Spanish-
English dictionaries to the boys at Industry.
